Clean Energy, Brighter Future, Stronger Community
About
The Highveld Solar PV Project is one of the first solar PV projects under development in Mpumalanga, awarded in Round 7 of the Renewable Energy Independent Power Producer Procurement Programme (REIPPPP) at the end of 2024.
Located approximately 15km north west of eMalahleni, the project’s 450 000 solar panels generate over 685GWh of clean power each year – enough to supply more than 160 000 South African homes. Feeding into the nearby Vulcan Main Transmission Station, the project site spans over 550 hectares and is set to avoid around 360,000 tonnes of carbon emissions per year.
This 240MW solar PV project, which is owned by Infinity Power Holding South Africa (Pty) Ltd and Pele Green Energy (Pty) Ltd, is expected to reach commissioning in June 2028.
Community
As an active contributor/participant to/in the country’s sustainable growth, the Highveld Solar Project is committed to advancing meaningful economic development initiatives that empower local communities and create employment opportunities.
Our Economic Development commitments focus on job creation and inclusive participation, with particular emphasis on South African citizens, black people, skilled and specialised black professionals, residents of local communities, black youth aged 15 to 35, and black women.
We are further committed to maximising local content spend during construction and operations, promoting black ownership and management control, supporting skills development, and driving preferential procurement, enterprise development and supplier development initiatives.
We are proud to report that we achieved a score of 7.27 out of 10 during the ED bid evaluation process, which contributed to our successful project award in Round 7 of the REIPPPP.
