Clean Energy, Brighter Future, Stronger Community
About
The Highveld Solar Power Plant represents an important step for Mpumalanga to achieve a more diverse and sustainable energy future, while bringing investment and development opportunities to the region.
Located approximately 15 km north-west of eMalahleni, the project will comprise around 450,000 solar panels generating more than 685 GWh of clean electricity each year – enough to supply over 160,000 South African homes. The facility will connect to the nearby Vulcan Main Transmission Station, with the project site spanning approximately 550 hectares and avoiding an estimated 360,000 tonnes of carbon emissions annually.
The Highveld Solar Power Plant is among the first few large-scale solar PV projects under development in Mpumalanga and was awarded in Round 7 of South Africa’s Renewable Energy Independent Power Producer Procurement Programme (REIPPPP) in late 2024.
The 240 MW solar PV project is owned by Infinity Power Holding South Africa (Pty) Ltd (IPHSA), and Pele Green Energy (Pty) Ltd and is expected to reach commissioning in June 2028.
